The other day I talked to some friends about dream cars and what cars we'd stack our garages with, if we had the proper change. While most of my pals went down the usual route of Ferraris, Porsches, Zondas etc. I realized that cars I really lust for, that I am passionate about aren't necessarily the ones with most cylinders or hp. Therefor I'd like to start a thread on the "Dream Garage of Unassuming Cars", that is cars that only enthusiasts would be able to identify as something special.
I'll start:
Opel Speedster
Truly underrated car. It's basically a Lotus and it's fun, fun, fun to drive and doesn't look that badly.
BMW E21 323i
Looks like a miniature E24 handles better than a 2002. Yes I said it. Crucify me.
Mercedes-Benz R170 SLK32 AMG
I already featured the SLK in a used car face-off

Maserati Quattroporte I & IV
I know, I know. Maseratis aren't exactly unassuming but I bet that the Quattroporte I isn't on too many people's dream car list. Also, it is Marcello Mastroianni in car form.
I love the understated looks of it.
Volkswagen Golf II Rallye
What's not to love about this car?
Land Rover Defender Convertible (... ok, ANY Defender)
Because manly.
BMW E61 (Not necessarily M5)
The E61 is still a god damn good looking car and I'd take it any day as a 535d or M5.
There are obviously a couple of others like Z3 (+Coupe) but those above are the most prevalent ones. What are your's?

I wouldn't really call the Speedster unassuming. It doesn't really look like a regular, beige, commuter car, does it? It's far from understated.

That's true. Maybe unassuming wasn't the right word, I meant cars that aren't exactly on people's radar. The Speedster is a very cool and neat little car that was supposed to make the Opel brand cooler. What happened however, was that Opel badge made the Speedster terribly uncool (not in my opinion though).

I'm exactly the same. There's probably only 2 or 3 properly expensive cars that I would have in my dream garage, and they're things like Alfa 2600 Zagatos and Lancia Flaminia SSZs.
Mine runs like this:
Alfa Alfetta 1750 Berlina
Alfa GTV6
Alfa Alfasud Sprint
Alfa Montreal
Alfa 6
Alfa 2000 GTV
Jaguar XJ40 Estate
Jaguar XJ6C
Jaguar XJS V12
Triumph GT6
Triumph TR6
Triumph Stag
Triumph Toledo Sprint
Maserati Biturbo
Lancia Fulvia
Lancia Beta HF
Reliant Scimitar
MGB GT V8
Rover P6 3500
Fiat Dino
Fiat X1/9
Fiat 124 Coupe
Chevrolet Corvair
Every single one can be had for less than £20k, and if you forgo the Montreal everything can be had for less than £10k.
I could have the whole of my garage for less than one of most other people's :)

I'd say about 90% of my bucket list is unassuming

I know this car from Need for speed hot pursuit two.

Who would've ever thought that you could love a car solely for its lack of a B-Pillar.
What's that GMC truck btw? I have seen that on the road once, and liked it for its small size.

This fender flair...now that you asked...lol.

I share your opinion. Ferraris and the like don't do much to me. The list below are the first that come to mind. Accidentally most are 4 cylinder and/or FWD cars and none has more than 6 cylinders.
1966 Citroën DS
1969 Porsche 911
1972 Citroën SM
1972 Porsche 914/6
1981 Matra Murena
1987 BMW M5
1987 Citroën CX GTi
1989 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.9
1991 VW Golf 1.3 mk2, retromodded ( my first car, it's in storage now )
1998 Citroën Xantia Activa 2.0 CT
2002 Peugeot 406 coupe 3.0

It's the Syclone, from 1991. One of the coolest trucks out there if you'll ask me, though I'd probably take the "blazer" versions, the Typhoon
And yup, those names were justified.

Really? I actually think it looks pretty great, or at least it would with wider wheels and meatier tires.

As BlazinAce said, it's a Syclone. It had a turbo v6 and an AWD system that took it to 60 in less than 5 seconds (closer to 4 I think). It was the quickest thing you could buy in 1991 and Car and Driver compared it to a Ferrari 348. The gmc won. You can find them today for under $15k

Triumph TR-3 (just like the one my grandpa used to race in the early '60s)
1987 Toyota 1-ton truck EFI in tan, with a 5 speed, and 2wd, my other grandpa bought one new, kept it for years in his garage to give to me as my first car, but my mom ended up needing a car desperately so he gave it to her, she drove it for 5 years, then she needed a newer, more practical car (the truck was 20 years old and had 400k miles at this point) so they sold it (with my blessing, i still had like 3 years to go before I got my license). I've been looking for one ever since.
3rd gen tercel coupe (first new car my mom owned, first car I remember.)
2001 Ford Focus SE Wagon. My dad had one, the closest thing to a soccer mom car my family ever had. I remember many camping trips in this thing, and I remember thinking my dad was just like Collin McRae, piloting his focus down dirt roads at alarming speeds.
blurple 2000 Mercury Mountaineer. My grandpa (former race car driver/inventor) bought one new, traded in his eggplant purple 1993 Explorer Eddie Bauer for it, and it was the pimpingest thing my 7 year old eyes had ever seen
I'm sure there's other, better ones, but I'm feeling nostalgic as hell.

I'm with you. My present dream garage consists of:
Peugeot 106 1.1 (It's my first car, and I'd rather it stayed with me than meet some cube-shaped fate in a scrap yard.)
...
(Because Racecar)
Peugeot 106 GTi (It's arguably the best version of my first car, and indeed, one of the best hot hatches ever made. Me want.)
...
Peugeot 205 GTi. (You may start to notice a theme here...) Widely considered the best hot hatch of all time, and just generally brilliant.
...
There are, of course, a great many more cars -workaday or not - that I would really very much like to have. But these are the ones I obsess over. And if I actually took the time to compile the full list... Well, I'd be out of the editing window of this comment, which I foolishly sent too early.

They would be "S15 Jimmy" versions...because GMC

True, though I was going with the brazilian custom of calling anything like that a Blazer hahahah...

Haha, no worries just being my wise ass self.
And I had a highly customized 4x4 s10 2 door blazer for my first vehicle.
It was shockingly fast with what we had done to it.

I love these smaller two door blazers. If I had some disposable cash I'd totally buy a Chevrolet Bonanza, the brazilian version of the 80's Blazer

Man there was a 4 door 350 V8 conversion for sale just down the street from me for a while, it was really tempting!
